Solome Acen is one of the girls who graduated hope house. She joined hope house when she was in her primary five and she was living in Panda Pier with her family at
the time. She comes from a polygamous home. Solome’s mum passed away and her dad got 2 other wives after that but the beauty is that she’s her father’s beloved so
she went with him wherever he went and that way she was able to fit into all the families.
Her family of 12 people lived in a single roomed house and that wasn’t a favorable way for her to live, study and grow happily. So Africa Renewal Ministries’ project at
The City Church was doing home visitations and found out her living conditions, she was recommended for Hope House.
At the same time Solome’s father’s job transferred him to Masindi, a district in the western part of Uganda and this was far away from where Solome went to school
which was more reason for her to live at Hope House. She went home during school break to be with her family.
During her stay at Hope House Solome grew spiritually; she learnt how to pray, socially; she came from being a rowdy girl to a calm and restrained, hardworking young
lady who was grateful for all she was offered.
She excelled at her primary level examinations and joined secondary school. After completing her senior four (ordinary level), Solome decided to take on a vocational
course in agriculture after discovering that is was her passion. And it was at this point that she graduated Hope House and was adopted by a family of 2 pastors from
The City Church, Pr. Dennis and Becky Onen with whom she’s living till date.
During the longer holidays when she went to be with her family, Solome practiced agriculture and she hit her peak during the Covid-19nationwide lock down when she
planted and grew an acre of beans and maize. She sold all her harvest and it got a substantial income and this fueled her decision to pursue a diploma in agriculture so as
to nurture her passion and become better equipped for it.
She is making real good progress in her life and she even serves as a children’s minister at The City Church location in Mpererwe.
